FAQs

What is the address?

8842 Orchard Tree Lane, Towson, MD 21286

Can I sign up for any class, even with no experience?

Yup, that’s the point of a Makerspace. To learn how to use new equipment, collaborate and build. Register for classes here

Can I bring my friends and family?

At this time the space is only open to SBD employees. Family and friends are not allowed at this time. We are discussing opening up some family workshops in the future and will announce any plans of that when the time comes.

Is the Makerspace only open to employees?

Yes right now the Makerspace is for SBD employees only, from any location. If you’re visiting Towson please don’t forget to stop by.

What type of projects can I work on?

The Makerspace was started to encourage prototyping ideas for our business as the natural extension of the Drawing Board. We highly encourage working on ideas you have that could benefit the business by proving them out. While that’s the main focus we still invite you to work on small scale projects as an education tool to learn how to use certain pieces of equipment.

How much does it cost?

It’s FREE. The entire space is free including classes, workshops and competitions as well as complementary soda, water and coffee. Consumables are free and we have some basic materials on hand. If you have specific material needs you are encouraged to bring your own.

Do you have plans to partner with universities or STEM?

Yes, we are currently in conversations with several universities and schools as we look to expand our maker movement.

Are there any plans to open this to the public?

The maker movement is all about open sharing and collaboration so the end goal for us would be to spin out a public Makerspace program by SBD in the future. We have no immediate plans of doing so as we’re solely focused on making this work for employees to start, followed by academic partnership. But as those plans evolve we will let you know.
